The family suites can easily accommodate a whole family, since they can be transformed into two-bedroom suites. Some suites also offer a fireplace.

    Aeolian Gaea boutique hotel is located in Skala Kallonis, 400 m. from the beach and just 2 km. from the town of Kalloni. The hotel is situated at the center of Lesvos, offering guests the ideal starting point for excursions to every side of the island within an hour.

    Skala Kallonis, which is the natural extension of the town to the picturesque gulf of Kalloni, boasts an organized sand beach, ideal for families with children. Traditional Greek tavernas, with local delicacies, sardines, fish and ouzo, as well as trendy bars, meet the need for excellent Greek food and vibrant nightlife.

    The gulf of Kalloni, protected by UNESCO, provides shelter to hundreds of birds, from early April to October. Apart from birdwatching, The Monasteries of Leimonos and Panagias Myrsiniotissas are very popular destinations in the vicinity, both of significant religious and historical importance.

    Begin from Mytilene’s airport or port, the capital of Lesvos. Then you enter the town of Mytilene. Follow the road that leads to the Prefecture building of Mytilene, called “Nomarchia”. At this building turn on Vournazon street, that leads out of the town of Mytilene, and towards Kalloni-Petra-Molyvos. Turn right on Theokritou street, and afterwards immediately left on Zoodochou Pigis street. This street will lead you out of the town of Mytilene, towards the area of Pagani.

    Continue straight for approximately 15-20 minutes. You will pass the village of Lampou Myli and after 15-20 minutes right before you enter Kalloni, you will see on your left the wetlands of the gulf of Kalloni. Continue straight and you will initially drive through Arisvi, a small village - now adjacent to the town of Kalloni. In approximately 300 m, you enter the town of Kalloni.

    You will come across a crossroads, where there will be two electronics stores in front of you (one on your left, and one on your right. Turn left and drive for 150 meters. Turn slightly right. A bakery is on your right. Turn left on the road that leads to Skala Kallonis. You will drive through the village of Ariana. Continue for 200 meters, and then turn left on the next crossroads (there is a small tree right in the middle of the crossroads). Continue slightly right and in approximately 200 m. you will arrive at Aeolian Gaea Hotel, which is the first hotel and on the left side of the road.

    The island of Lesvos is the third biggest island of Greece and the seventh biggest in the Mediterranean. Lesvos is the ideal place to be, if you love nature, history and culture. Skala Kallonis and generally the island Lesvos has not yet been spoiled and preserves a unique natural and cultural environment.

    Bird watching

    A total of 500 bird species live on the island of Lesvos. Particularly, Skala Kallonis, where Aeolian Gaea Hotel lies, boasts the famous wetlands of the gulf of Kalloni (protected by UNESCO), which shelters more than 130 birds, some rare and unique to this ecosystem. Birdwatchers from all over Europe flock in the area, particularly in April, May and September, when birds stop in Lesvos, during their long journeys north.

    Fauna and flora
    The island of Lesvos, boasts a very diverse population of both plants (over 750 species) and animals. Over 120 different species of orchids, some very rare types grow on the island, such as the Himantoglossum comperianum (comperia comperiana) and the Platanthera holmboei. Many scientists and naturalists also visit the island of Lesvos for lizards, snakes, dragonflies and tortoises.

    The Lesvos Petrified Forest is a member of the European and Global Geoparks Network of UNESCO. It has been voted in the top 10 touristic destinations in Europe in 2009, and offers a picture of the nature in Lesvos 20 million years ago.

    Festivals

    The history and tradition of Lesvos is very rich and the local people love to celebrate and participate in festivals and events, some of which originate in antiquity. The most famous festival, which takes usually place in July, is the one dedicated to Saint Charalampos, commonly called the “Festival of the Bull”. It takes place in the adjacent villages of Agia Paraskevi and Napi and originates in the ancient sacrifices of animals for divine protection and favour. A visitor is certain to enjoy the festival, since it involves music and dancing for 3 full days, many groups of horse riders, and the adorned bull.
